RARE POLYPHON UPRIGHT MUSIC BOX
Polyphon upright standing 15 1/2" music box, Model 51, with full-door length painted advertising porcelain panel reading "Musk-Automat/Polyphon" with an image of a goddess playing the harpplaque depicting polyphon logo, mahogany case with turned vasiform gallery above a turned, fluted, and carved Corinthian half-column hinged door on a similarly decorated base, all resting on turned flattened bun feet, Mechanism with gilt bedplate with double comb, engraved silvered zither plate reading "Patent/Brevete/SG.DG/Patented," and three cast gilt disc rollers, lower cabinet to store discs, ht. 72 in. These rare machines were made for Important Exhibition and showrooms displaying there state-of-the-art musical inventions. The rare double comb mechanism of this machine was meticulously rebuilt by Dwight Porter in 2000. |
