Rare Galle Clock Suite Of Pottery


Rare Polychrome Enameled Faience Clock Set. Marked beneath with E.G. in a circular stamp, Emile Gallé (1846-1904),  French, ca. 1875. This stunning set has 3D floral decoration with brush stroked painted pottery case and a white porcelain dial with hand painted floral accents, clock decorated on rear as well as front with an ornate fretwork circualr door opening to access the French made 8-day time and hour striking mechanism. Emile Gallé, became a partner at his father’s glass and faience decoration business in 1867. Ten years later, he took over the family business and soon acknowledged at the Clay and Glass Exposition in 1884, and then honored at the 1889 Paris World Fair with three awards for his ceramics, glasswork, and furniture. His ceramic work was no longer popular amongst the public, thus he oriented his focus to glasswork.  This set is the best of his ceramic work.
